PV police target domestic violence

The Puerto Vallarta police force has created a special department to focus on domestic violence.

The 15 officers seconded to the unit will use three patrol cars with distinctive pink markings for their easy recognition. Psychologists and social workers will also be attached to the department, which will work closely with the local Family Development Agency (DIF).

Much of the work of the unit will be preventative, with officers already planning talks about domestic violence to community groups.

In the past four  months, two women have died in Puerto Vallarta at the hands of their partners in incidents of extreme domestic violence.
