Famed Guadalajara-born ranchero singer Vicente Fernandez is set to give the final performance of his career at the Azteca Stadium in Mexico City on April 16, an event that will probably be telecast live in a downtown Guadalajara plaza.
The 76-year-old Tapatio, often referred to as just “Chente,” is a cultural icon in Mexico, having recorded some 50 albums and appeared in more than 30 films. He has consistently filled stadiums and venues throughout his 35-plus years of performing.
Fernandez has suffered health issues for several years, and the date of his final performance has been widely anticipated for some time.
Tickets for the Mexico City show can be obtained at www.vicentefernandez.mx through the purchase of an official T-shirt for 350 pesos.
