Violin and Piano Trio

“Del Romanticismo Ruso al Romanticismo Mexicano” is the latest in a series of sensational classical concerts scheduled at the Centro Cultural Ajijic’s nearly completed Teatro del Pueblo.

The Sunday, August 23, 6 p.m. recital highlights two top violinists: Julio Serna of the Jalisco Philharmonic Orchestra and Lidia Parra of the Zapopan Symphony Orchestra. They will be accompanied by renowned Russian pianist Larissa Pelstverger.

Zapopan native Serna began his violin studies at age 14 with Sergio Caratachea. He subsequently studied under Vladimir Milstein, Christopher Wilshere and Leonard Nubert.  He joined the Zapopan Symphony Orchestra in 2009 and became a member of the Jalisco Philharmonic in 2011. He has performed as a soloist with both of these groups, as well as the Youth Orchestra of Jalisco and the Higinio Ruvalcaba Chamber Orchestra. He has served as master of violin in the Jalisco Ministry of Education since 2012.

Guadalajara native Parra has been a member of the Youth Orchestra of Mexico for five consecutive years. She graduated with a degree in music from the University of Guadalajara and this year was accepted to represent Mexico in the Music Festival of Santa Catarina, Brazil

The trio will perform a violin concerto by Tchaikovsky and works by Mexican composer Manuel Ponce.

The event is hosted by RCM Productions. Tickets are 100 pesos and will be available at the door. Proceeds will be used by Serna and Parra to offset the costs of their upcoming study in Austria.
