James Edward Way

James (Jim) Edward Way died at Baylor Hospital in Dallas, Texas on July 26. 

Born in Jackson, Michigan on January 16, 1932, Way graduated from St. Mary’s High School and the University of Michigan and was in the SAE fraternity. Way had a successful career in public accounting and financial management, including senior positions at NBC and the Simplicity Company, where he retired as CFO. In Rye, New York he was active at church and the American Blood Association. In retirement, he worked as a realtor and city councilman for South Padre Island, Texas. 

Way lived for four years in Ajijic where he was an active tennis player and angler. He was also an avid sailor, skier and loved college football and debating politics.

Way is preceded in death by his wife of 59 years Joanne Gaebelein Way. He is survived by daughters Linda (Michael) Jacobson of Park City, Utah, Dr. Mary (Douglas) Way Rudley of Dallas, Texas, Diane Fulmer of Austin, Texas, son Jim (Linda) of Niantic, Connecticut and honorary daughter Emmalisa (Thomas) Lesica of Providence, Rhode Island; seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren; sisters Marilyn Summers, Kathleen Way and brother Thomas Way.

Family and friends will have a private memorial for Way in the United States. Memorials may be made to a charity supporting education for Mexican youth that he was actively involved in: Friends of Niños Adelante, Inc. P.O. Box 1624, Sonoma, CA 95476-1324 (friendsofninosadelante.org).
