The American Society (Amsoc) aims to get 2014 off to a rip-roaring start with a New Year’s Day (Wednesday, January 1) breakfast served at 8 a.m. There will be a pot luck lunch from 12:30 p.m. – all those coming are asked to bring a dish to share.
Amsoc’s opening times (apart from January 1) during “New Year’s week” will be from 9 a.m. to noon. Books and DVDs may be checked out at this time.
Amsoc has many activities for members and others to enjoy. A delicious hot lunch is available every Thursday, from noon to 1:30 p.m. Thursday is also Game Day, when various games of skill and chance may be enjoyed.
The Photography Club meets on the second Thursday of each month at 10:30 a.m., and the Book Club on the third Thursday at 10 a.m. All are welcome.
Light exercise is offered on Mondays and Wednesdays, from 10-11 a.m., for 50 pesos per class.
Spanish conversation classes are held on Saturdays, from 2-4 p.m., when the library is also open.
For those who like to plan ahead of time, Amsoc has two important dates in February. The Super Bowl will be a screened live from New Jersey on the society’s big-screen television on Sunday, February 2. Doors open at 3:30 p.m. and the game starts at 5:30 p.m. The donation is 70 pesos. There will be refreshments, chili and assorted snacks. The bar will be open.
The Valentine’s Day luncheon, which includes the installation of Amsoc’s new slate of officers, will be held on Thursday, February 13. You can book now.

Indoor motorbike racing
Guadalajara will host the fourth round of the exciting and increasingly popular off-road International Motorcycling Federation (IMF) SuperEnduro World Championship on January 25, from 3-9 p.m. at the Arena VFG on the Guadalajara-Chapala highway.
SuperEnduro is a physically demanding motorcycle sport that takes place on a challenging, indoor track and demands high levels of bravery, skill, determination and athleticism from riders who must compete in several races to determine the overall winner in each class at the end of the event.
Among 42 top riders expected in Guadalajara looking to score points for the world title race will be world champion Taddy Blazusiak from Poland, Sweden’s Joakim Ljunggren and Great Britain’s Jonny Walker and David Knight.
