HOLIDAY CLOSINGS

Semana Santa (Holy Week) is an important time for relaxation for Mexican people and many businesses will close their doors for the entire week.

Most schools pack up for a two-week Easter break this Friday and won’t reopen until Monday, April 16. Government offices, banks, consulates and many shops and services will be closed on Thursday, April 5 and Friday, April 6. Supermarkets will stay open over the holiday. Semana Santa is a traditional time for families to take a vacation. Maids and gardeners may not be around and many mom-and-pop stores will shut up shop for the week. Finding emergency service personnel may also be a problem.  Both the Guadalajara and Ajijic offices of the Guadalajara Reporter will close during Holy Week and reopen on Monday, April  9.  Look for next week’s edition on stands as of Thursday, April 5.
