US Consulate updates visa procedures

New regulations at the U.S. Consulate General in Guadalajara aimed at speeding up visa applications do away with interviews for visa renewals from applicants whose visa is less then four years out of date.

Those who fall into this category can present their documents to the service center and be digitally fingerprinted. These rules apply to student, tourist and some work visas.

The Consulate is also hiring more staff to help reduce the backlog of current visa applications for non-immigrants. Dozens of thousands of new visa interviews will be opened up during the next two months.
