Guadalajara has inked a sister city relationship with Changwon, the eighth most populous city is South Korea.
Changwon Mayor Wan Su Park visited Mexico this week to sign the agreement alongside his Guadalajara counterpart, Ramiro Hernandez.
With a population of more than one million, Changwon is a predominantly industrial city and home to subsidiaries of some of South Korea’s largest companies, including Samsung, GM-Daewoo and LG.
Guadalajara and Changwon are members of the International Association of Educating Cities, a community founded in 1990 that now has 300 signatory cities. The network aspires to ensure active citizen participation and continuing education for all citizens. It also aims to help its member cities become sites for the creation of sustainable peace, through principles of nonviolence, economic justice, a participatory budget formation and full transparency.
