With only six months of the year gone, the tally of bank robberies in Jalisco has already surpassed the 2012 total of 58.
A lone gunman held up the Banamex branch at Alcalde and Manuel Acuña in Guadalajara Wednesday, bringing the figure to 63.
After threatening the bank teller with his revolver, the assailant made off with a mere 1,500 pesos. Security guards gave chase but failed to catch him.
Jalisco has the second highest rate of bank heists in Mexico, just behind the Estado de Mexico.
Around 85 percent of the robberies have been carried out in the Guadalajara metropolitan area.
