Jalisco Philharmonic Orchestra

The final concert of the fall season sees a gala honoring Richard Wagner, conducted by Italy’s Guido María Guida (above).

Organ recitals

A month-long organ festival is being held at one of the downtown area’s oldest churches. Recitals are scheduled each Wednesday evening through December 18. Wednesday, December 4, 8 p.m. – Victor Contreras; Wednesday, December 11, 8 p.m. – Francisco Alvarez; Wednesday, December 18, 8 p.m. – Ernesto Garcia Preciado.

Michael Tsalka

The International Book Fair (FIL) presents a recital by Michael Tsalka, an award-winning Israeli pianist and early keyboard performer. He performs solo and chamber music from the baroque to the contemporary periods on the modern piano, harpsichord, fortepiano, clavichord, square piano and positive organ.  The title of his recital is “Corriendo junto a Scariatti,” (Running together with Scariatti), a homage to Italian composer Giuseppe Domenico Scarlatti (1685-1757).

Jalisco Philharmonic Orchestra

A special concert presented by the International Book Fair (FIL) and  guest country Israel.  Conductor Avi Ostrowsky, with invited pianists Sivan Silver and Gil Garbourg, lead the orchestra in Leonard Bernstein’s “Candide Overture,” Felix Mendelhsson’s “Concerto for Two Pianos in A-Flat Major” and Gustav Mahler’s “Symphony No. 1 Titan.”

Aga Boom

Three former stars of Cirque du Soleil juggle, stilt-walk and pratfall their way through paper pandemonium. The Aga Boom Theater of Physical Comedy combines the unbridled silliness of slapstick and the humor of physical comedy with theatrical expressionism and poetry.

The Legend of Zelda

The Jalisco Philharmonic Orchestra will perform “The Legend of Zelda: Symphony of the Goddesses” – the first ever video game themed concert to feature a complete four-movement symphony. This multimedia experience presents over 25 years of music from The Legend of Zelda gaming franchise. Projected behind the symphony and choir will be game play images corresponding with the tone set by the music.

GetBack

Original Beatles tribute band are back in Guadalajara for the eighth time.  The Fab Four can expect another lively crowd. (See story page 5.)

Spirit of Christmas

Ballet de Camara de Jalisco, one of Jalisco’s best-known amateur ballet troupes directed by Lucy Arce, presents its acclaimed annual seasonal show, El Espiritu de la Navidad.

The Nutcracker

The professional Joven Ballet de Jalisco interprets this Christmas staple that features Tchaikovsky’s unforgettable score.  The well-known libretto is adapted from E.T.A. Hoffmann’s story “The Nutcracker and the Mouse King.”  Eager Tapatios will have three performances to choose from.
