Art Camp show

Don’t miss the chance to purchase artwork created by more than 100 local children, aged between 3 and 17, who have signed up for an art camp at the Lake Chapala Society during the week of July 22.

They will display and sell their artwork on Saturday, July 27, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the LCS gazebo.

During the LCS Children’s Art Program Art Camp (Campamento de Arte de Verano),  local artists and Neill James Legacy artists will lead classes in watercolor, oil painting, jewelry, paper mache and printmaking.

The Ajijic Society of the Arts is one of the sponsors of the camp.

Admission to the July 27 display and sale is free.

This is a great chance to add local artwork to your home at great prices and also to support the children of Ajijic.

Painting for Pooches

The Lucky Dog Rescue and Adoption Center has started a project called Painting for Pooches and is appealing for help from animal loving artists in the Lakeside community.

The center is seeking artists to paint “colorful and happy” wall murals at its new shelter on the Chapala-San Nicholas highway to “make the environment even more cheerful.”

Although the center says its is “unable to provide perfectly prepared wall surfaces or ideal working conditions,” they have promised to provide “a lot of publicity” for (the artists) through printed publications, Facebook and the Lucky Dog Website.

The center says it will allow artists to dedicate their work to the person or pet of their choosing.

Several artists have already committed to this project, but the center says they need more.

The center is also looking for someone who makes special dog collars and leashes.

The Lucky Dog Rescue and Adoption Center is a non-profit organization, with all funding coming from donations from the local community and abroad. Collaborators with the project believe the new shelter, situated on the road to Vista del Lago, is the perfect rural location for dogs to exercise, become healthy, well nourished and socialized.

The Lucky Dog center hopes to complete the mural project by October and hold an open house party to introduce the new look in November.
