Atotonilquillo, Chapala’s most distant satellite community, is winding up to celebrate the 20th annual edition of Expo Membrillo, a colorful country-style fair set for August 10 and 11 that revolves around the town’s main fruit crop, the quince.
The festival is held at the central Plaza Centenario where local fruit growers and family-operated cottage industries set up a string of handsomely decorated booths to display the tangy fruit both in its natural state, freshly harvested from nearby orchards, and transformed into a wide array of taste treats.
