Chapala Tequila Festival attracts crush of visitors

Gallon after gallon of free-flowing booze, lively Mexican style entertainment and an exhibition gallery for a wide array of Jalisco-made merchandise turned Chapala’s first annual Festival del Tequila into an irresistible a magnet for an estimated throng of 10,000 visitors over its three-day run.
Discerning tasters had a chance to sample an ample variety of lesser known tequila brands, ranging from throat-scorching newly distilled blancos to silky smooth añejos. Stand-outs included the authentic-flavored Tequila Sandy y Daniel, brewed from blue agave grown closest to home on the south shore fields outside Tizapan el Alto, and Tequila Dos Artes currently produced exclusively for export to the U.S. that is distinctive for both it polished taste and the collectible hand-blown glass or intricately decorated ceramic bottles employed as packaging.
