Ajijic artist Javier Zaragoza has temporarily closed shop at his local gallery to dedicate his time and talent to restoring the giant mural he painted on the southern façade of the town’s Delegacion office building back in 2008.
Although details of the stunning two-story mural remain clearly visible, over five years of constant exposure to the sun’s rays, the yellow-to-red color range of paint tones have faded badly and lost their original gleam. Zaragoza has been intent on retouching the work since last year, offering to carry out the job free of charge, but it wasn’t until last week that the municipal government finally provided the scaffolding he needed to get the project under way.
