Bible scenes at Chapala City Hall

The foyer at Chapala City Hall is the venue for the huge exhibition of landscapes depicting Biblical tales that is on loan from the town of San Antonio Tlayacapan.

A take-off on traditional Mexican Nativities that are a standard part of holiday décor, the display entitled History of Salvation comprises dozens of small scenes representing different scriptural episodes. It runs the gamut from Adam and Eve falling from grace in the Garden Eden, Noah’s Arc, the Tower of Babel and Moses revealing the Ten Commandments to moments in the life of Jesus, from birth to resurrection.

San Antonio cultural activist Vicky Corona coordinated the overall exhibit set-up, with students from various local schools assisting in the assembly of the individual components.

The display will remain in place through the first week of January. Although city hall offices are closed while staffers are on vacation, police guards are on hand to open the gates to visitors from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily.
