Mariachi Festival puts Guadalajara in the limelight

It comes around once a year, and when it does, it brings a whole lot of noise and celebration to Greater Guadalajara, laced up in trajes de charro and gently swelling strings, belting brass and rhythmic guitar. A small army of Mariachis will descend on the city this August 29 for the International Mariachi Festival, bringing with them all the prestige and flair of centuries of tradition paired with a well-oiled cultural event.


After more than a century, State Band is more in tune than ever

Every Thursday and Sunday La Banda de Música del Estado plays for free in the Plaza de Armas.


Ballet dancer back in town

Back from his second year studying at London’s Royal School of Ballet, Tapatio dancer Esteban Hernandez will perform in Guadalajara at the Foro de Arte y Cultura (Fray Antonio Alcalde 1451, Miraflores) on August 2.


Jalisco cultural festival Saturday

The state’s fourth annual cultural festival is held Saturday, August 11 with various free performances in downtown Guadalajara beginning at 11 a.m.


Rising US singing talent to debut with state orchestra

Soprano Megan Rose Williams will sing the soprano solo in Mahler’s “Symphony No. 2,  Resurrection,” in this weekend’s concerts given by the Jalisco Philharmonic Orchestra.


Mariachi Film Fest

The Jalisco Cultural Secretariat is presenting a series of films at the Guillermo del Toro Theater in the Instituto Cultural Cabañas and the Video Sala of the Ex Convento del Carmen during the month of August from Wednesday to Sunday.


What's on in Guadalajara

JPO 4th Program
Alondra de la Parra leads the Jalisco Philharmonic Orchestra (JPO) in two classics: Beethoven’s “Concert for Piano and Orchestra, No. 4,” and Brahms’ “Symphony No. 1.” The guest pianist is Jan Lisiceki from Canada.

Guadalajara’s 19th International Mariachi and Charreria Festival takes place from August 29 until September 9.


Ballet star to grace Degollado

On July 7 and 8, Guadalajara ballet fans will get a second chance to marvel at the talents of Elisa Carrillo Cabrera, the Mexican-born first ballerina at the Berlin Opera Ballet (Staatsballett Berlin).
