Bringing culture to Michoacan

Reducing the violence plaguing the state of Michoacan will take more than tough words from government officials. Many communities around the world have found that getting young persons involved in cultural activities is a tried and tested method of lessening the temptations of crime.

A new project undertaken by the National Council for Culture and the Arts (Conaculta) aims to get youngsters off the streets and into cultural workshops and courses. “Cultura en Harmonia” has budget of 300 million pesos and will gradually be introduced around Mexico after an initial phase in Michoacan, in particular in troubled areas close to the borders of Jalisco and Colima.
